Sewing Machines Distribution
1.05.2023

The Mawlana Abdur Rashid Social Welfare Association has successfully completed a major livelihood-support initiative by distributing 100 sewing machines to needy families living in the Rohingya camps in Bangladesh. This effort reflects the association’s ongoing dedication to empowering vulnerable communities through sustainable and skill-based programs.

Supporting Livelihoods Through Skill Development

Due to limited income opportunities in the camps, many Rohingya families struggle to meet their basic needs. Recognizing this challenge, the association launched the sewing machine distribution program to provide families—particularly women—with the tools to develop home-based income-generating activities.

The initiative aims to:

  • Promote long-term self-reliance
  • Enhance women’s economic participation
  • Strengthen household financial stability
  • Reduce dependency on external humanitarian aid

Distribution Process and Community Engagement

During the event, 100 sewing machines were handed over to families selected based on financial hardship, interest in skill development, and their potential to utilize the machines for small-scale production. Beneficiaries also received a brief orientation on machine operation and were informed about upcoming tailoring and vocational training sessions organized by the association.

Community members expressed appreciation for the initiative, noting that the machines will help them begin tailoring work, mend clothing for the community, and contribute to their family’s financial needs.

Expected Impact on Families

The sewing machines are expected to bring several positive outcomes, including:

  • Creation of home-based tailoring businesses
  • Increased income opportunities for women and youth
  • Improved resilience and dignity among vulnerable families
  • Expanded access to essential skills within the camp community

By providing tools that promote income generation, the association hopes to pave the way for long-term stability and empowerment among Rohingya families.

Commitment to Continued Support

The Mawlana Abdur Rashid Social Welfare Association remains committed to supporting displaced and underserved communities with practical, livelihood-focused interventions. The organization plans to expand its skill development programs, ensuring that more families can benefit from sustainable solutions that enhance dignity, independence, and resilience.
